Does anyone know what size front sway bar came stock on a 1979 with the standard suspension? Is it 1 inch or is it smaller?

Thanks,

Keith

Vette(s): 1972 conv, 4-speed, 350, 200hp, numbers match, rally wheels, war bonnett yellow w/white top. good condition, nice driver.
1 inch or BIGGER!  7/8 is pretty small, and is not to resistant to twist. My 72 had a 7/8, I went to 1 1/8.  MUCH BETTER control in turns.

also..  you should remember that picking a size because that is what was on there isnt ncessarily the best choice.
neither is going overly large.

I always have to think about it so it might be backlwards but the rear sway bar is inversley related to understeer and the front sway is inversely related to oversteer

you can put a giant front bar on and have no oversteer but create understeer.  then put a  bar on back and still not be balanced. either by not being large enough and still having understeer or by being too large and creating oversteer

the stock sway set (front and rear if included) works for stock engine, stock suspension.

change the shocks, springs, engine weight (aluminum vs iron), and the balance is gone.

Vette(s): 1978 Silver Anniversary L82 4spd (M21) Red Leather. Pace Car is in the hands of a new caretaker.
My '78 with stock standard suspension has a 7/8" sway bar. The Pace car with Gymkhana (FE7) has the 1 1/8" bar. I can't tell much difference if any at all between the 2.

Nice looking '79 ya got there, Keith. I like the color combo. Our picture is on a cruise we took out of Seattle a few years back.

I put the 1 1/8 on the front of mine, really makes a difference.
