Jon-

How awful!! My gosh, did you have to be cut out of the wreckage? A year long recovery??? What all did the Doc's patch up? Was the person that hit you drunk or something...fall asleep at the wheel....? I'm so glad you made it. Beautiful car. I always liked the yellow Vette's. I wish I could of found one that was decent. Blue is another favorite (had one). Man, that's hard to look at all messed up.

So.......ya got a red one now....nice, nice, nice car!! I love the rear spoiler (sp??). What kind of shape was it in when you bought it? Wow, I would of loved to see that guy's car collection. A '55 Chevy, sweet!!! I still like Vette's the BEST.

Sorry for all the questions. You don't have to answer if you don't want to.

Mick[/QUOTE] Actually,I dont think I would have survived as well as I did, because I'm big enough to have a tight fit when sitting in a C3,and I screwed up because 5 minutes earlier I had removed my seat belt to reach across for something.I was hit at a combined MPH total of around 40 mph,& the left side of my forehead just in front of the temple smacked the A-pillar hard, while my chest caved the steering wheel in.I remember seeing her flying across 2 lanes out of the opposite ditch & the reason I didnt see her before(A 17 year old girl) was because she had gone thru that ditch on the other side of her lane of traffic.I was out for a bit,& when I came to,I couldnt see out of my left eye because of the blood,& my neck was so screwed up I couldnt open my door. They pulled me out thru the t-tops,& it took about 6 firefighters. After they put me on a stretcher,I overheard the State Troopers saying she had admitted to smoking something on the way to go babysitting.Anyway,I was strapped down & immobilized for 7 hrs while they determined if I had a broken neck, broken ribs,& ruptured spleen...among other stuff, using X-rays,MRI's,CatScans,& ultrasound.I had morphine while there. The girl had a broken pelvis, ruptured spleen & facial cuts. Both cars were totaled,& I still have neck pain & a bad hip, after physical therapy. So I went from relatively few code #56 Bright Yellow 1977 L48 with 48,000 miles(there were 2 yellows in 77),& the last year with a flat back window & all the options,to a 1979 with a "fastback" window & 'all the options' including the factory pace car style front & rear spoilers.

Jon-
It was like she came outta nowhere & there was nothing you could do about it....bad bummer. 7 hours would be miserable strapped down by yourself, wondering what all was messed up. You must be a big guy.....6 firefighters??!!!

So, are ya gonna race your sweet red '79? How do you determine what works best when upgrading the front and rear suspension in a Vette? And the headers? I've heard that if you change them in a C3, your car will run hot. You have done so much to your Vette, that mine would be "a boring geek" next to yours. The only mods I've done on mine:

Holley 650, electric choke (Mallory Delco Conv)
4 15X8 5-4.75 American Eagle 211 wheels, with locking lugs
4 new BFG Radials
Mallory Coil
High performance spark plug wires (red)
Rear Bubble Lights (on the car when I bought it)
Car Cover
Seat Covers to protect leather seats

All the rest of the stuff I've fixed is stock:
Power Steering Pump
Power Steering Assist Unit & Cylinder
Smog Pump
Rear main seal & oil pan gasket
Replaced both RH & LH Motor Mounts
Replaced all hoses & clamps
Replaced all brake caliper's - GM stock
All break lines
Break pads
Resurfaced rotors
All wheel bearings repacked, reassembled and reinstalled
Choke Assy & Throttle cable
PCV Valve
Fuel Pump
(car sat for a long, long time)-not good for the seals

The engine has around 55,000 miles on it. I need a stero system, but for now I have an Ipod. Had to put her in the shop today for new emergency break shoes, A/C Relay, some wiring stuff & a clutch foopaw (man). Either sync. or adj. Got some cosmetic things I will do myself. I'll get it painted later. I love the ride!!

Do you work on your car yourself? I do some, but I don't have all the tools yet.

Dynomax Ceramacoat headers are ceramic coated which cuts the heat way down.I wouldnt use any other kind in a vettes small engine compartment. But I still get some heat inside along the trans tunnel like before, which I didnt insulate when I put the front carpet in & will have to get done later.I've never raced the vette,& theres a few things to do 1st if I do.One of the reasons I changed out the suspensionmis to lower it down over the 17" wheels & lower profile tires.Didnt look so good with all the extra wheel well exposed. Now it can be adjusted seperately at each corner for track conditions, etc. The handling & cornering are a great improvement,-not that it wasnt before...  The next unaffordable project is a taller hood for more room for engine stuff & better cool air flow, and a new paint job.The paint I'm told now is not a Corvette color but it is GM,but thats what was on it when I got it... Your vette sounds great! Plus its worth more than mine to start with!

Why thank you, you are a very, very nice person! But, I believe the one I sold is the one that was worth A LOT of $$....makes me sick, not really because of the money, but because I really LOVED THAT C2 (I'll try to edit a jpg so you can get a visual).

Hey, thanks for the info on the ceramic's. I will definately check into that when my exhaust bites the dust. I've seen that insulation in some of the catalogs & that looks like a GREAT idea. I need to replace the carpet, but it will hold out a couple of years. I see the point on the too much of the weel well exposure, smart!! So if you race, what would you do? GM color?? Do you mean that the coding package for paint on your vette is not red, or it's just a general GM red color? Does that make sence? What's the original color supposed to be? Maybe that makes more sence???!!!    Mine needs a paint job too...got some stress areas around the hood I guess that means strip & repair the fiberglass..$$$ The way you talk about your vette, makes me want to drive it!

Just got mine outta the shop today, new A/C Relay!! I'll be drivin' her to a job tomarrow.

Strangly enough,I never checked out the original color, but the shop I just had color-match & install the molded rockers told me it was black.Dont know when the paint & engine were changed, but I like it & will keep it.The 350 had a mystery cam installed. The previous owner before me wasnt any help on either questions. I want to check it out with a dyno, maybe try a quarter mile, then maybe an SCCA road course-but I hear C3's arent that great on those. My old stock exhaust on a 79 was 2 into one thru a cat, then back out to dual exhuast looking. It was rotten & falling off,so now its headers to 2.5" pipe, crossover 'H' pipe,to 2 Flowmaster 40's. Heres one radical hood I'm considering-->

Year, I like the hood on the black car. The front & rear end of your car looks better than the black car. Those mags are so NICE!

I think the jpg's too big.....I'm pooped. I'll give it a shot, here's the C2, 1965 Convert.
