Hi Jim
This is what this outside ampl box looks like.
A similar box is required for your radio to get it to work, stereo option U79.
The original 68 radio in my car works, but the quality of the sound is rather lousy. Can not compete with any newer radio. I think, if somebody realy likes to listen to good music and still wants the dash to look original, he should install a original radio and install a good modern radio/CD as well, may be hidden in the trunk.
I never have my radio on during driving as I can't heare anything with the hi compression 427 CI engine jelling through the Hookers. |laugh|

Hey Gunther,

I haven't taken the time to dive into the interior yet. So far have just done spring fluid changes and gone for a couple of short rides. "The Toy" will be up on jack stands soon to attack the parking brakes so plan to look inside the dash then as well. Hopefully I'll find all the assemblies hanging there and just be able to "plug-n-play"...!!! If not I'll have to look for what I'm missing and hope I can find them affordable. Thanks for the additional picture.

I really don't mind if the sound isn't the best. I'm just getting tired of looking at that aftermarket P.O.S. that someone put in there and want to put the look of the original back in there. I also don't usually have the radio on while driving, there's such sweet music coming from the sound of the car running that I hate to spoil that!

|biggrin|

Hey Gunther!

GREAT NEWS...!!! The radio arrived today! |sommersalt| And it looks great. |biggrin| Now the fun begins (if you can call tearing apart the dash fun!). Hope some one or both of the other assemblies are waiting to surprise me. Wish I knew what took so long for my letter to get to you, but the west bound package took less than half the time to get here. Thanks for the patience on your end.

I'm glad you like it.
I did try it out on my stereo amplifier and it works well.
I hope you can locate one of this units or may be somebody can give a tip if it's possible to hook up some kind of a aftermarked ampl.
If you run into big problems with this issue, I will try to find out from my side, but you need to be patient till next winter. I don't like to rip my car apart during the good season.
Anyway, you can install the radio, at least it looks stock as nobody can see what's behind the dash, or not.
Did you have to pay any import tax ?

Hey Gunther,

"The Toy" will be up on blocks for a couple of more weeks so I can get a couple of minor projects done that I didn't get finished last fall before putting it in storage. Also waiting for Mother Nature to settle down (we got another 6 inches of snow last Sunday) and I'm holding off putting the insurance back on for the summer season to save a few dollars. So I should be able to take a peek behind the dash panel to see what's there, or not there, as the case maybe. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Don't know how you managed it, but I didn't have to pay any import duty on it. At least not so far. Usually there would be a note in the mailbox and one would have to go to the post office to pay the import tax before getting the package. So as the package was delivered to my doorstep I think I'm in the clear (unless there are any postal inspectors lurking in the forums! |eek| ).

Thanks again! I'll post a picture once I get it installed.

|biggrin|
Jim
