So just helped my buddy find and buy his first C5, beautiful Black 1999 6 speed coupe w/25k miles - that car is an animal compared to a C3 and I cannot even comprehend what driving a 600 hp C7 would be like. Two weeks later and we've got our first hick-up, got a bit of a chirp in the S belt that goes away when you turn the wheel, so it's time for a new belt and hope for the best. Well the day before the belt change he takes it out to run few errands and the belt starts squealing like a banshee and the PS goes out, crap !!! Limp home, let it cool down and take off the belt. Belt is dried out, but still in one piece. Go to the other side and spin the PS pump over by hand, not so good. The plastic pulley has decided to strip itself away from the steel mounting hub and spin on its own plus dangle around a bit, so we definitely need a new pulley. Survey the situation a bit more and realize that the ABS brake unit is mounted about 1/4" in front of the PS pump so that's not going to allow us to change the pulley without pulling the pump. Do some online research to find out while being very tight, it is a DIY project. 2 hours out, new pulley pressed on and 90 min. in and we're all good. Very impressed by the Engineering on this car. Everything fit like a glove, just a very, very tight glove !!
