There should be a small amount of adjustment on the trans linkage itself, where that cable attaches. If there is not enough adjustment left to get the job done, you may need to tweek the bracket on the firewall a bit. Check to see if there is too much slop in the cable eyelets on both ends. If worn too much, it can create the same problem.
btw..that particular cable has nothing to do with getting the trans into park. That is a function of the shifter cable. Check the condition of the shifter cable on both ends, too. Also, make sure the shift linkage arm is tight on the shaft where it comes out of the trans.
