Sioux Falls Corvette Club Helps 'Pave the Way'

While construction at the Motorsports Park has slowed for the winter, the action behind the scenes is moving full speed ahead... including in the area of fundraising. Early January several checks trickled in from South Dakota... more specifically the Sioux Falls Corvette Club and their members.

"We've got a core group that race and do track days," said Club Ambassador Mike Skiles. "We have an interest in the track, and we've always had an interest in the NCM... the work you do is great for the hobby," Mike added.

The Club, along with several individual club members, sent in contributions for the Motorsports Park - which were allocated to our "Pave the Way" campaign.

"We do an event yearly, it's a fundraiser for a local charity. This year we decided to donate some to help build the track. I opened it up at a club meeting, and said members could also send in checks if they wanted to."

The Club sent in about $2,000 - which is 20 tons of asphalt for our Carousel on the East Course.

Bloomington Gold Great Hall Induction

Bloomington Gold has had a long, rich history of honoring history itself. For many years they’ve been rewarding those cars that have met the highest standards of authenticity with Bloomington Gold, Survivor, or Benchmark  certification.

In 2010, the Great Hall was established by Bloomington Gold as a five year project to honor the 50 most influential people, cars and organizations that have had a pioneering influence on the Corvette world. In this, the last year of Great Hall eligibility, the National Corvette Museum was chosen for its role in preserving, protecting and promoting all aspects of the Corvette experience.

It is with great pride that we accept this honor, and pledge to continue to do our best to live up to it. To learn more about the Great Hall and the other inductees honored there, click here and we hope to see you June 27-29 in Champaign, IL for the Bloomington Gold Corvettes Event!

Museum Celebrates 500th Stingray Delivery

Jose Calderon picked up his new convertible Stingray at the Museum last Friday, and also became our 500th Stingray Delivery customer!

“My last Corvette was a 1976,” Jose said. “It was from the last year that Stingrays were made. So when I heard that they were bringing back the Stingray I told my son I had to have one.  Now I have the last one and the first one. I’ve owned the other one for 37 years, and had three before that, but they were all used. This is my first new Corvette so there was no question that I was going to come to the National Corvette Museum to get it. It was a great surprise for me to find out I was number 500!”

When asked about why he picked the color white when his other Stingray was mahogany, he smiled. “The very first Corvette from 1953 was a white with red interior so when I ordered my first new one, I wanted it to be white with a red interior too.”

Jose is a great example of the way Corvette owners appreciate the past, while driving full speed into the future. Learn more about our R8C Delivery Program online here!

The Caravans Are Coming... Let's Make It GREAT!

August 27-30, 2014, hopefully if you are reading this - you are making plans to visit Bowling Green, KY to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the National Corvette Museum and the Grand Opening of the NCM Motorsports Park!

Your Museum team has been hard at work, planning festivities for your arrival. So far, we have booked seminars with Andy Pilgrim, Doug Fehan, Wil Cooksey, Dave McLellan, Paul Koerner, Dave Tatman, Tadge Juechter, Kirk Bennion, Harlan Charles, Wes Wong and many others. We also have a Chevy Ride 'n Drive planned, the Corvette Racing rig will be here, our PDI team will be doing hands-on demos, a number of area road tours will be offered, an entertainment tent will be open with adult beverages and live music, and so much more!

The complete agenda will be finalized soon, and we will be sending a mass email with all the details. In the meantime, do you have ideas for more activities, speakers, vendors, etc?

We would love to hear any feedback you have! Click here to tell us your thoughts.

CorvetteForum Members Band Together

Typically, CorvetteForum members get together to turn wrenches, show off their rides or just hang out. But over the holiday season, a group of members tabled the high-octane discussion and worked together to spare the life of a puppy named Shiloh.

The canine campaign started with a post from 99C5Vert: "I’m looking into rescuing a seven-month-old German Shepherd from being euthanized. The only problem is I’m in Virginia, and she’s in Texas.  Please post here if you can help. Thanks."

Because she was larger than expected, Shiloh was cruelly dumped at a shelter, but fortunately 99C5Vert‘s plea resonated with members. Replies flooded in, and volunteers formed a rescue relay to bring the lucky pup all the way from the Lone Star State to her new home in the Old Dominion.

To read the whole story - and to see Shiloh play in the snow - head to the CorvetteForum Blog.
