While the hood is off, you'll have the best access to headlight vacuum lines, horns and headlight wiring........hint, hint, hintWink

I had to weigh my hood so I could ship it and it weighd 35 lbs very light. Took mine off myself no problem, much easier with an extra pair of hands, well, unless they got some butterfingers then you could be in troubleWink. A blanket helps so it don't slide around and hit anything. Have a nice soft place to set it down before you take it off so you don't chip a corner setting it down. Paul (Lukesvette's) not kidding without the hood on you got all the room in the world to poke around in, kinda makes you want some quick release hinges.
...I'm going to need my hood removed for engine-bay cleanup and restoration....
Why?  You can clean up and restore with the hood in place.  If you want to remove it, two folks is all you need.  Mark the hinge positions before you remove the bolts.

Now, if it's a party you want, no real excuses needed, but I would remove the hood BEFORE the festivities get underway!!

If the car won't be moving, you can put the hood, flipped over, onto the t-tops.  Just put a blanket down you won't get in trouble using, then flip it over and lay it gently down.  That way it isn't on it's side (fall over, get run into, dinged, etc) and it isn't in the way.

Thanks to all that replied.

The whole front of the car from the windshield forward is gonna get a scrubbing with new paint on the engine, engine bay and front undercarridge and a rebuild of anything that needs it.

The hood is scribed around the hinges, all the edges are taped off, and I have foam on the t-top ready for the hood.

I'm ready for removal Thursday morning  (before beer)Thumbs%20Up

I would be very careful about foam on the T tops.  Foam has a funny way of getting dirt in the little holes in the foam and could transfer to the T tops if somethin is moved or slid accidently.

A better idea is the blanket then a layer of the foam, and another blanket to protect both the hood and the blanket from damage.

Also be careful that the blankets are clean and don't have any dirt or residue on them either.

Don't ask how I know so much aout the hood and blankies !!!

Whoa!  What kind of hood do you have?  The hood on my '68 weighs about half that.  The '80 hood is a little heavier, but not by much.
