Oh I plan to keep the L-48, and as time/money permits, rebuild it.

Anyone have any idea what kind of gas milage I should expect out of the LM1?

Twinnie,

You have any pics of that 4 Dell set up? That is some kewl looking "sheet", 4 Webber sent me a pic of his set up, that is very impressive stuff. Like I told 4 Webber I would like to get a Hilborn style set up for myself but am not having much luck finding it, well at a resonable price anyway.

Oh and by the way congrats to Adam for going with the crate, now all you have to do is make up your mind on which one, that may be a more difficult decision than deceiding on crate or rebuild. Good luck on your mission!!!

Adam, On my LM1 engine, I'm only getting around 13 mpg, but I don't keep my foot out of it either. Mostly back roads here where I play, short runs etc.
I've never really taken on a long run where it was just running steady. Mostly with in a 1/2 hour of here are all my runs made and once in awhile out to 1 hour. I never let the tank below 1/2 to keep down and usually full. Cuts back in the sweating inside. Usually at a Vette club not to far away talking with the guys. Some of them have some serioius money in them and are fanatical about them. I just like things in the KISS mode in my later years, or Keep it simple stupid. I've dropped plenty of money in racing stuff in earlier years and looking back the cost and end result seldom were worth it. Back then it was, we had a dragway here in CT etc. All that is gone now so pretty much a stop light to stop light racer.....Hell, I'm age 60, I'm happy to beat a guy on a lark wheel chair....Not really, I still like to keep them running right.
Had a old 32 I built up years ago, keep it in primer and not looking to fancy, for a reason. Use to race in down in RI beach area at night with the guys. Won a lot of races with it back then. This the late 50's till late 60's were talking here. Had plenty of HP then, but not much to keep it attached to the ground. I even had a little 280Z here, 76 that was pretty snappy. Tweaked it here and there, it was pretty awesome in second gear.....top end was decent, but handling on it really sucked. I sold it about a year ago.....Kinda miss it. it was same color as this vette I have now. I took it on Skyline drive down in VA for a vacation with my older son. We hooked up with a guy with his kid in a vette. We really had a great time there on the switch backs etc for a week. I got my eye on a nice vet with blower on it etc.... Gotta have one. If you buy any of the vettes right you can usually get your money back unless you trash it. What does Dad think about you bringing the 79 back into tip top shape? My Dad left me with a Buick Wildcat with big 430cc in it. The years are getting to it now, but I still have it.
Keep us posted as your project continues.....

I have a weird idea that I would like someone to try: 96-up vortec 5.7 from a pickup with the 4L60E tranny. 275 HP stock. Maybe a cam and big-block throttle body for over 300HP and over 20MPG in a vette. Any takers? Joe

ADAM, YOU MUST BE CRAZY. MORE POWER... MY 74, 350 WITH 195 HP DOES NOTHING BUT FLAT OUT HAUL ASS. I DONT KNOW IF SOMEONE MAY HAVE DONE ENGINE WORK ON IT, BUT I DOUBT IT. EVERYTHING UNDER THE HOOD LOOKS UNTOUCHED EXCEPT FOR WHAT I HAVE DONE. NEW TIMING CHAIN AND GEARS. HOW MUCH POWER DO YOU NEED? |eek| THEN AGAIN, I READ IN A POST THAT THE ROCHESTER CARB WAS STOCK AND MINE HAS A CARTER AFB, AND IS MISSING THE AIR CLEANER ADAPTER AND HOOD SPACER. THAT COULD BE FOR SOUND EFFECTS THOUGH. WHEN I PUT MY FOOT IN IT, THE SOUND OF THAT AFB KICKING IN IS AWESOME.

More power is always better though!! My '77 came stock with 180. I feel that is sad so that is why I want to squeeze every horsepower I can get out of it.

Are you running without an air cleaner/cover? I'd be concerned that the first time the carb backfired and bletched a ball of flame that the hood would get toasted.

NO, I HAVE AN AIR CLEANER AND FILTER ON IT, I MAY BE DUMB, BUT NOT THAT. SOMEONE TOOK THE ADAPTER AND HOOD SEAL OFF BEFORE I BOUGHT IT. I PLAN ON REPLACING THEM, BUT HAVE OTHER ITEMS THAT HAVE MORE PRIORITY.
