Am I going to be able to use the same manifold & carb off my L-48 on top of this LM1?

If its anything like the one I have here, you will be pleased with it. I can't find a thing wrong with them for the price. Everything on the one you took out should bolt right up to it barring any x factors from some clown changing things around. 79's are a pretty straight forward setup. There were few variations engine wise, no computers or oxygen sensors. Use all new gaskets as you put it together on manifolds and intakes and fire it up. Break it in and your all set. Which one did you get the 249 hp or 300?

Thumbs up on the 249 hp LM1. I'm betting you will be pleased with it. The picture here of the blue vet has one in it. Fact, tomorrow, its going to 60 here so I've got it up on the blocks so I can install my summer exhaust. I have the stock exhaust and then I have a not so stock one. I'll explain it to you later. Adds a fair amount of power and sounds just like a vet should and for not a lot of money. 6 bolts and you can replace either cat back set up. I have to go back to stock to get thru CT emissions once a year for a few more years.
Just replace the manifold gaskets on exhaust while there easy to get at and the intake manifold and while your at it the valvue cover gaskets, don't want oil all over that new block....Water pump gasket also or if not available gasket cement will work on that. New plugs and fire it off.....I use never seize on most of the bolts etc as I move stuff around a lot. Part of the fun for me is to tinker with it even if its just removing it, checking it out rebuild it, or repaint it.
For resale he cleaner they look the better plus I know the part is working right. Electrical on them can drive ya nuts but thats Corvettes in general. My 84 was not only a pain in the butt but expensive behind the dash. C-3 you can do most of it yourself if your electrical inclined. Most of them I've found as you drive them a lot of the stuff comes back to life, either vibrates off corosion on contacts or something. Fact I'm resodering the tack board now on one....was just a cold solder joint....the clock, well thats a lost cause.....set it for your favorite time and forget it........or get one of the replacement clocks.
The Alpine AM/FM in mine has a clock to I don't bother with it.....
did your Dad get that new?

Swampy,
I am going to get a engine rebuild gasket kit so i'll have all the new gaskets I can handle!
Also, I deperately need new oil pan & trans pan gaskets, so I'll be getting those too!

Seems you've been doing your homework... you asked if my Dad was the original owner... yes. Makes me lucky number 2!

Good move on the all new gaskets Adam. No point in fiddling around with tiny leaks after you have done all the major stuff. Plus if your thinking about going over the Mobil One later, less prone to leak also. Nice and getting the car from your Dad. That adds a lot more value to the car for you I'm sure. I'm not sure I want my younger son to get mine. He races hare Scrambles and can't make the switch to on or off track, kid only knows one speed, flat out. He had a nice Vetter, but could not afford the tickets he was getting, then the insurance went up....so he sold it. but he is building up another one.
My older son might enjoy this one...He is more sane and less apt to put it sideways for kicks......LOL...... I recall you sayng it was coming towards end of the week so I've been following your thread. I'm betting you will like it.
HOw tired was the old engine in it? Lot of miles? If you go to my personal web site at http://www.angelfire.com/ct3/swampy and click on the icon that says Andy, thats my young son Andy and his real sweet 84 is on there.
4+3 standard etc...nice handling car. Mine is behind his in that picture I think. The cars have been good for him and I, good bonding material....

Later Swampy

Swampy,
The L-48 I'm pulling has 92k on it.
The reason I'm pulling it is because it burned oil, and fouled 3 plugs by the time I needed to refill the gas tank. So basically, it ran well for about 100 miles at a time.

I got the engine on Friday! |jumpy|

I've spent this weekend stripping things like the trans pan, belt pully & fan and re-painting them! Boy do they look better now! I'll be posting the pics in the "Project Car" section later tonight!

I still want to repaint little things like the Power Steering reseviour, the water pump, etc. So hopefully I can get all that done by the time I put the new LM1 in on Sunday!

Stay tuned...
