In the process of replacing the all of the weather-stripping on my 75 coupe, I have come up with a problem with the right door and window.  The windows are electric and since I replaced the weather-stipping, the window will not raise to the top of the channel.  I lacks about 1/4 of an inch.  The other problem, is the door will not close with the window up.  The leading edge of the window hits the lower edge of the pillar channel.  It looks like the previous owner had the same problem because of the marks and dents in the chanel.  I tried moving the window to the rear of the car, but all of the adjustment of the C bolts is taken up. The window will raise all the way when the door is open, so it is not the window stops.
Please help, I am at the end of my patience.
Thank you,
LeoConfused

I had the same problem too. Took a while but got the window adjusted so it does not hit anything. The only problem now is with the right door window seal. The rear edge of the glass does not seal well. May need to go back in and try some more fiddlingWink

ALCON, replaced my rubber last year, had heck of a time ajusting. Then looked at the assembly manual I had. It outlines completely the installation and ajustment. Basically says lossen all bolts and window stops, with door closed, raise window set glass at desired location.  You can accually move the window around to exactly where you want it. From inside the car retighten stops and bolts. Just be careful it dosen't bind when you raise it or when you close the door. Just my two cents, thanks.

Order the '75 assembly instruction manual (AIM).  The AIMs have the best instructions for adjusting door glasses, essentially how they did them at St. Louis.

Not sure where I got this from, but it's the same procedure as in the AIM.

Thank you all for the help. I do have the AIM and the Service Manual and even a Haynes.  The problem comes up when you run out of adjustment room as per the instructions and it still hits the pillar.
I will keep toying with it and see what happens. At least it is Winter and the 75 sees little outside time.
Thank you all again.

fast, when you losen the bolts inside you can rotate the glass, move side to side and ajust your stops where you need them. Wish I was close by I'd drop by and do it for ya, I'm a Arkansas guy too rased in Stuttgart and live in Little Rock west side not to far from Benton, take care thanks.

Oh the joys of window adjustments.

After my car was painted we replaced all the weatherstripping which is definitely not as pliable as the OEM stuff was. Then we set the window glass back in the doors and set the windows to the original settings we had marked before disassembly.
Well it didn't work. We either had binding issues or it would hit the pillar. After numerous trial and error attempts, it is finally close to being perfect. Even with a new power window motor installed on the passenger side it lacks closing  completely by about a 1/16". But if the door is open it will go up that little bit. I then have to assist the top portion of the glass inward as I close the door so it won't stick out on the outside of the weatherstripping. I think if the weatherstripping was soft like the OEM was, window adjustment would be much easier.
Good luck to all with their window adjustment!

Man that's exactly what I went thru. To this day the drivers window does not seal at the top. I don't get rain in there, but the wind noise is a pain. I think the new side pipes will overcome that problem.

Guys (and Gals),

I'm in Kuwait and though I can see the forum and respond to posts, I can't do large attachments on e-mail.  So far I have requests from "jbs82vette" and "joanne" for copies of the document I sent to some of you.

If those that I sent it to would be so kind as to step up and help out, I'm sure they would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and I'm jealous of ya'll cruising around back there !

Just replaced both side windows on my 77. I used a little silicone grease on weather stripping, loosen bolts and raise window slowly until it goes  into grooves of w/s. Snug bolts, adjust window felts, that will get you close. Get out of car, do not slam door but check alienment of glass and w/s. Fine adjustment will be required. Hope this helps.

Ladies and Gentlemen-

Again, I would love to be able to send you this file but right now,  I cannot. It will be March or April until I can send it. Bandwidth at my apartment down town in Kuwait City is minimal at best, non existent at worst and that happens, ALOT.

The file itself is about 3 MB.

I would greatly appreciate it if a few of the folks I sent it to could step up and help out in my absence.  Please volunteer  !  I have requests from the following:

The silicone lubricant is an important bit of advice.  If the motor can't push past sticky rubber, it just stops.

We keep a reference area in our store for our customers to browse.  I don't have a good window adjusting guide.  If someone is forwarding the copies of JimG's article could they please include me?

Thanks

I've just ordered the AIMs manuals for my 1980.  Will they tell me how to make adjustments to my windows?  I will need to replace the weather stripping...should I bite the bullet and by the OEM stuff or can the cheaper weather stripping be made to work?
