In case you haven't noticed, my ability to find an electrical problem is outstanding...my ability to fix said problem, let's just say "some people not have way I guess"(thank you Steve Martin).  I need to look for an ignition controlled hot wire for the electronic choke for my edelbrock carb model 1406.  I absolutely stink at tracing wires and following wiring diagrams.  Yes, I know my limitations, I just need to find them all and start listing them!

Thanks,

Check your fuse-box for a terminal marked "IGN"...run a wire from that out to the choke housing. Of course, this is gunna have you crawling up under the dash....not much fun with a screwy back....Ouch
However...the wiring diagram shows that the '81 had an electric choke to start with...so....I would find the brown wire coming from the alternator, and tie into that. You should also see a fuse marked "Choke Htr" in the fuse box. THis is where the brown wire gets it's ignition fed power.
There should be a "Choke Heater Relay" in that circuit...somewhere....still looking for that location....

If for whatever reason Joel's advice doesn't work out (seems like it should, though) you could use the wiper motor hot lead, which becomes hot when you turn on the key.  That's what I did on mine - 76 used a hot air choke, but my Edelbrock Q-jet has electronic.
