In order to remove/replace the radiator fan motor wiring connector that plugs into the side of the motor housing, does it require the removal of the radiator fan shroud or can it be accessed from underneath the front of the car? I have tried to stick my arm between the fan blades but cannot reached the bolt to remove or see what I am doing. I believe there is only one bolt which threads to the housing to hold the connector assembly. Any comments will be welcomed.

Remove the (4) 13mm nuts that hold the engine driven fan on. Gently wiggle the fan off the waterpump shaft. You don't have to loosen or take the belts off. The fan pulley will move a little due to belt tension, but will straight out when you reinstall the fan. This is a little shortcut that I have used in the past. Then you should have enough room to get to the Aux. fan connector. Use a small mirror and a light to give you a good visual of the bolt and the nut on the other wire.
Can I ask what are you aiming to due once you get the wires off the fan motor? Are you replacing just the wires? If you are replacing the motor, it's easier to pull the whole shroud out to unbolt the aux. fan.

I am replacing only the the wiring. When I purchased the vehicle the fan was not connected??? The wiring harness insulation was bad. Hopefully there is no hidden problem with the fan unit itself. Thanks for both of the tips....stayed tuned.

Mike, on my 79 the electric fan isn't supposed to go on until the temp hits 238 degrees. There's a thermostat between the first and second sparkplugs on the driver's side. There's also a 30 amp fuse. I rarely see my electric fan running. Don't know if 82 is the same, but something to check. Pull the connector out of the thermostat and try jumping it. Mike
