Thanks for the suggested site - that one was more reasonable but with being at various shows I liked the idea of being able to lock "roaming fingers" out as that cap set-up will more than likely become an attractive thing to be played with.... Based on these concerns I placed an order for the Scott Drake unit mentioned in an earlier post, plus the diameter seems just right to fit over the existing hole once the fuel door is removed. Now it will be a matter of getting it plumbed on to the existing tank as painlessly as possible.
Thanks again,
Jim
Rob,
I will take a picture in the morning and post it so the there is more light in the garage - it is now fully installed and was totally painless with the exception of drilling 8 holes and down the road - if I ever sell it; someone can fill them in but this puppy is far from original, and certainly not a “survivor” so - I guess to a degree, I don't care – according to the build sheet this was a Fathom Green Car with Red Line Tires and that was about it, originally. I like the way it is today, as it is great fun out on the road.
Nice Vette - hints of Motion......

Rob,
I spoke to the guy directly on the phone at R&R Specialties - I believe his name was Joel, (423) 663-9816 and he ended up shipping it out the next day. R&R is primarily a machine shop that makes specialized automotive parts of many kinds but their specialty is Cobra and GT 40 parts. He had indicated that it is difficult to keep the website up to date as it indicated out of stock when I ordered mine as well. When I called and left a message for them at 9am to return my call I figured it was a shot in the dark but he called back around 4pm. He was very helpful as he took one of the units from the warehouse to give me some exact measurements while we were talking and at the same time I did some measuring on the car to insure the fit would be right. He even said that if I didn’t like it when it arrived that I could send it back – no questions.
I would suggest calling and placing your order direct, that way if they are truly out of stock he can tell you when they will be making more since they are the actual manufacturer and it is not made in
Good luck
Jim
Thanks for the comment,
I have had more than a few people mention the Motion resemblance. As of now the car is a good ten footer – the paint shines great but it unfortunately has cracks in it upon a closer look. When and if I get around to having it re-painted the scheme would remain basically the same except I would want to run the black up the center to the rear glass to add a bit More of the Motion look.
Speaking of Motion, have you seen the Motion Clone on E-bay-

I bet it will hit 50K before it is over…… too steep for me but a beautiful car.
Thanks again for the comments and you have a good looking 79 there Luke - great job on the Engine details!!

Well, I got bored this past Saturday with all the rain and decided to mount the cap. While looking at it, I felt it needed something to finish it off. So I took a new cross-flag that is mounted on the original filler door and mounted it to the new cap. Not bad if I do say so myself. Check it out. Couple of more screws and good to go!!
