How hard is it to install a remote starter? And where should I buy it from?  This is for my daily driver.

Places that sell & install car alarms will carry them, even car dealers will do them. Get prices, they vary all over the place.

It's a lot of wiring to do. Some starters come with a tech line to help you out. I would let the shops do it since they have the expertise. It is definitely worth it in winter and summer to have it. Toasty and cool how sweet it is.

Here in Texas, the po-lice have been issuing tickets($100 a pop) for people that start their cars in the mornings to let them warm up, and leaving them unattended. It is illegal here to leave a running vehicle unattended. It makes it so much nicer for thieves if you warm your car up for them before they steal it, tho, and I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Another issue is the chance of the vehicle jumping out if park, and running amuck thru the neigborhood.(it could happen...)
You may want to check your local laws, just in case...

I purchased a 1991 Suburban yrs ago used &the previous owner had the dealer put in a remote starter kit. That think drove my nuts cause sometimes it would not shut off. I finally figured it out & ripped the whole thing out. I agree with Joel & would never have one.

I installed a Bulldog remote starter on my 95 dodge p/u. With the right wiring diagrams it wasn't too bad. I only paid $50.00 for the unit. If youir good at reading diagrams and pulling wires it can be done. However!! With the newer cars security systems it can be a lot more involved. I sold my truck a year ago and it still worked fine. Nothing like jumping into a warm truck in a Michigan winter. Also, most of the kits will shut down the motor when aplying brake unless you put key in ign. A lot tuffer to steal. Terry

I have one in my ' 96 Dodge P/U also. Works great. Go to www.compustar.com and check theres out. They have some that will start your car from a couple of miles away. I use it to find it in a crowded parking lot. It has a paging honk I can turn on and find it. And they also have one for a standard trans. It's unreal all the stuff these can do. If your wife gets to your outfit before you do she can tap on the windows and the remote in your pocket lets you know to go back to your vehicle. Kind of spendy though. Up to about $650.00. Mine has a timer on it so I can set it to start and warm up before I get to it . Only runs for 15 min. and then it shuts itself off. But here in Wy. it's nice to get into a warm outfit and the windows are clear and the seats are warm. I love mine. Can start it from inside a Super Wal-mart way back in the far corner.Thumbs%20Up

I've seen them in K-Mart for $60.00.
But I don't know anyone who installed one.
Just follow the instructions.

I've had a remote start in all of my regular cars for years. If your car has a clutch that needs to be depressed to start, the remote won't start. I do suggest that you get the one button start system, the only one that ever gave me a problem required 2 buttons to be pressed simultaneously, it s#*%.
As for the cops giving tickets Joel is right, however it's an easy win (if you have to go to court). I had a cop try to give me a ticket while on a business trip, he stated it attracted thieves, I told him that before he wrote the ticket to try and get into the car, he couldn't because the doors lock automatically, then I opened the door for him and asked him to try and move it, unless you install the key the car will stall out when you touch the brake or move the shifter.
He didn't give me a the ticket. Go for it, they're great to have, especially in the winter

Joel,
I thought in Texas you were allowed to shoot a thief who is trying to steal your car, especially if it's in your driveway.

Adam, just put a Bulldog on my wife's Buick on Saturday. It went in very easy. Go on line to their web site and punch in your vehicle and your wiring diagram shows up. They are all color coded wires. For more range get one with the antenna that go on your windshield. I have a Auto Command in my truck that works very well and they are all programmable for different features.

I agree with Dave. Bulldog is very reasonable, and their website and customer service is very helpful. If I can install one, I know you can Adam. Oh the good news is I never had to grab my Texas Smithandgogetcha and shoot anyone. Here in Michigan its against the law.Dead
