I know you guys have probably been asked hundreds of times about vacuum lines-does anyone know if it's possible to buy a downloadable version of detailed schematics of electrical and vacuum lines for my 1980? I've found SO much disconnected wiring and vacuum lines and I want it to be right.. The lights work so I know those vacuum lines are right but the A/C comes out below the dash instead of the vents.I know I can rig it so that it blows only through the vents for now but I want it to be perfect. It's SUCH a fine car!
Thank yall for any help!
P.S. The guy that sent me to y'all is Crossfire 82 on y'alls forum, he's a lifetime member and said you guys are great..

Hey Brian,
Take a look at these two links;
They should both have diagrams and info. on the C3 vacuum system.
Glad to see you using this site.
The more you use it, the better you'll like it. At least that's what I've found.
Let us know how you do with the vacuum.
Kevin

2nd. site should be correct now. Good lookin' out, Dejablue!

I have a PDF file of the electrical schematics for a 1980 Corvette.  If you will send me a private message with your email address I will send it to you.

Brian,  The PDF that FirstCorvette told you about and the GM service manual is about as good as you are going to do on the wiring diagram.  Doc Rebuild has some FANTASTIC wiring diagrams but not for anything in the 80s.  I emailed them a couple weeks ago hoping they were going to offer them for the later years.... answer was short and sweet.. NO.  The problem with the vents could be a bad vacuum control valve that controls the air ducting, a bad actuator on a damper or something much more simple.  Look under the hood and find where the vacuum lines connect to the CHECK VALVE . One of the two lines that connects to the check valve goes to a "T" .  One side of that line goes through the firewall to the heater controls.  Carefully check the "T" itself and the hose where it goes through the firewall, make sure it isnt broken or the 'T' isnt cracked.

And you fell for that line???

The factory service manual is a must have. The AIM(Assembly Instruction Manual) is also invaluable. Both are available from some of the Corvette parts vendors, such as some of our Sponsors here. You can also find them on flea-bay.
Air blowing out the defrost or heater vents all the time is always gonna be a loss of vacuum issue. Finding the leak is the hard part...Ouch

Actually, yes I fell for that line! LMAO! He's known as "Check6" on my Mustang forum and quite a nice guy. I REALLY appreciate you guys helping me out, it's my first vette, I saw it, it looked really nice, I stopped and drove it and fell in love. No, it's not as fast as my Stang, but not much is-there's just a whole different feeling I get driving my vette that I can only explain as IT FEELS RIGHT. I never wanted a car SO bad as the moment I saw it. Now, I checked out a few other vette forums as a guest and just read threads and felt like those guys were just rich snobs that made fun of each other. From what I've seen here I feel quite comfortable already. Thank you guys and you'll be seeing a lot more dumb questions from me soon!

Since I'm having similar problems with the heat and vent control lever in my '80, I'm all ears on this one.

Heres a tip for you guys that are trying to find Vac. leaks without havin to start the car or use a MitiVac,Wits End when I had to do the job I used an electric vacuum pump that I borrowed from a mech friend of mine, he used it to evacuate AC systems, I hooked the line from the pump to the engine side of the check valve and plugged it into a 110 outlet, it applied vacuum to my whole vacuum system, tank, head lite system, wiper door, heater and AC system, where ever there was vacuum, I disconnected the battery and I could operate the HL doors, wiper dr. heater AC control, etc as many times as I wanted,  I could listen for leaks under the dash, relays, actuvators, etc, I was lucky to have a friend who had one, to buy one is about $300., Harbor freight has one that produces 28.3" mercury at sea level for $14.99, Part #96677-7vga, its not electric you hook your air compressor hose to it, don't know how good it works, what the Censored check it owut. That's A helluva good idea-after I figure out where all the unhooked lines are supposed to go! LOL. I just bought it and the previous owner had the engine pulled out, bored and stroked into a 383 and I guess when he put the engine back in he didn't take the time to hook all the lines back up. There's even a three way plug on the manifold that has a piece of hose with a screw in it-that;s what I'm dealing with.

Brian, your story sounds so familar, my red vette came from a very dear friend of mine that passed away very fast from cancer. He had just had it stroked to a 383, I still find hoses and such unhooked under the hood. The nice thing is my find something cobbed up, look up over my shoulder and ask him why? why you gota mess with me?

That pump check sounds like the way to go. I know its a little tight under the dash so don't get stuck, be carefull for sharp edges also, even thou the blood will match the paint Big smile
These guys are really good at this stuff so ask away. Glad your enjoying the site and nice to have ya jump in chat last night!

Ok, I've rerouted almost all of the vacuum lines, checked check valves, basically tried everything and still no air to the vents. So, for now, I pulled the dash back apart, got down to the flap/door that diverts air from the heater vents to the dash vents and closed it manually and shot a small screw in the edge to hold it for now. A/C is coming out of the vents and/or defrost like a charm. It sucks having to do it this way but it's Really hot down here and A/C on my feet just didn't cut it. I'm ordering a complete climate control switch to see if that might help since the old one is ragged out and superglued anyway. Keep y'all updated.

Hope you guys have a great time in BG, I SO wanted to go, but now after a 2 month layoff they want me back to work on Aug. 31st through Sept 14th in the Yucatan. Maybe next time...sigh
