   If your 1972 wipers won't work, but they will work when the washer button is pushed and held it means the switch has a bad ground. GM bought switches without the 1/4 inch ground tab. They then used a ground through the switch body then to the dash. If they don't work take out the switch and gently squeeze the tabs that hold the switch together, that usually restores the ground.
